Logon Message:  __The system cannot log you on now because the domain is not available.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop with Windows XP sp3, IE8 with a Centrino chip. I am using Avast anti-virus. When starting up goes to click user name screen. When I click on the name and type the correct password I get the domain is not available message. I have tried starting in safe mode and get the same message. I have tried starting from last known good configuration. Don't know what else to do. I need some stuff on my hard drive and it is not backed up, would prefer not to do a full re-install. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.1 person needs an answerI do too

Is this a domain member computer? If yes, see your IT Dept. If no, then what is the answer to The First Question Of Troubleshooting: If the problem is new, what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?Having Avast alone isn't adequate to ensure your computer is malware-free. However, since you can't currently get into Windows at all you can't scan for malware from within Windows. As far as getting your data, that is easily done by pulling the hard drive and attaching it to a working computer with a USB drive adapter.
